In case I forget later! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!
Having a very sore throat and being medicated to the point to where you are in a constant thought state that doesn't let you think can sometimes have its advantages. There was talk amongst one of the online Laser Tag groups about a game called the Twelve days of Christmas...having something to do with finding 5 gold rings... Well my mind took that and ran with it....and I came up with a couple of what I think are cool ideas - being as drugged out of my mind as I am at the moment, I could be wrong...but anyways here are the ideas that I came up with...

Twelve days of Christmas Game.
First thing you will need to do is get index cards and make the cards for the game. You can either do the short version and just make 12 cards or the more tedious but fun long version were a card is made for each item of each day of the 12 days (78 CARDS - PER TEAM! - do this in advance!)
The cards are assembled in the order that they pop up in the song:
Cards Needed for Long Version: 1 Partridge in a Pear Tree 2 Turtle Doves 3 French Hens 4 Calling Birds 5 Gold Rings 6 Geese a Laying 7 Swans a Swimming 8 Maids a Milking 9 Ladies Dancing 10 Lords a Leaping 11 Pipers Piping 12 Drummers Drumming
(would be cool to use graphics on a computer to make these cards so you can just print them out)
Each team is given a deck of cards that has all the features of the 12 days of Christmas (using muppets version of the song) - cards should be made in advance as this requires 78 cards per team! Or you can simplify things for smaller groups and just have 12 cards, one for each of the days.
The Game!:
Each team evenly divides up the cards amongst its members as best they can so each person of the team has multiple cards (unless you have 78 people or use the small version of the game which only has 12 cards).
Once the cards are divided up amongst everyone. The song starts (recorde the Muppets 12 days of Christmas off of youtube.com) and the game begins. The game stops when the song is over. There are different ways to play the game portion.
Versions of Game:
A. Dance Line: The teams line up in two rows. One end of the row is called the head of the line. The two individuals at the head of the line ask the other if they have a specific day of the year. If the other individual has the then they have to give it to their opponent who puts the card in the appropriate place on their teams 12 days of Christmas piles. If they do not have that card, then the other person gets to ask them if they have a specific card - if the other person doesn't have the card then the individuals that misguessed what the card was have to dance to the end of the line. If you guess correctly you can do a victory dance to the end of the line avoiding being asked a question. Two ways to go on the rules here, if you get the card right, then the next person in line gets to ask for another card allowing that team to get multiple cards out of one peson - or you can say that the asking automatically switches to the other team weather the correct card was guessed or not.
B Go Fishing. Teams are put in a big circle alternating teams from person to person, so as you go down the line the individuals are Team A, Team B, Team A, Team B and so on. A mock (or real - take off the hooks!) is given to one person - only the person with the pole can talk (and the individual they question). They pick someone in the circle (hopefully someone on the opposing team, might be a good idea to do something to identify teams such as give one team napkins and the other not. Person with the pole guesses at the individuals card calling out a day. If the opposing team person has the card, they have to give it up ( a person should collect cards and put it on the appropriate teams' card tree). If that individual does not have the card required - they simply say - GO FISH! If given a "GO FISH", then the individual must give the pole to the person on the right (alternate rule is to give the pole to the person questioned).
C: Stratego : This version takes a bit of setting up in advance. One spy card, one Star Card, and 3 bomb cards are added to the deck. A 12x12 grid must be laid out on the floor. Each team must pick a team leader. The first 4 rows on each side of the map are filled with individuals till the rows are filled or the team runs out of members (smaller groups can use a smaller grid). The team leader must quickly distribute the cards to the people on the grid (one card per person). The following cards must be put on the grid at the beginning of the game star(represents the flag in the game), (bombs call them Christmas ghosts if you wish, spy(can be called Scrooge and have them say BAHH HUMBUG if they are taken out!), Day 1, Days 2, Days 3 - all other cards must be given out randomly ( it's a good idea not to give away which cards are being given to who). When the song starts each team captain can move one person at a time going by the rules of Stratego. Acception: if you call the bombs, bombs - they cannot move- if you call them the 3 ghosts of Christmas - they can move-but never attack. Each person is a piece on the board, they can be told to move 1 space in any direction (saves time of rolling a dice) or they can be told to attack a person/piece on the other team. When attacking: The person with the lowest number wins ( 2nd Day of Christmas beats a 3rd day of Christmas, etc). The two exceptions to the rule are is the spy can take out the partridge (Day 1) but is taken out by anyone else. Bombs can't move, if anyone attacks them they are removed from the field permanently. If they are ghosts they are still removed from the game. The Star CAN move! Hey its traveling towards the manger! If the Star is found, then the game is instantly over and the other team wins. In the event of a battle, the lower number stays on the board, the higher number card is placed on the winning teams pile for attempting to win by points. You should have more cards then players on the field, when someone is taken out and there is an opening on the back row of the game board - the next person in line for the team (if you have more people then slots on the board) randomly takes a card an fills in the first blank spot on the back row from left to right. A team wins by finding the other team's star, wiping out the other team, or by the end of game (song over) point system.
D. Lazer Tag: Each person is given one card out of their team's pile. This can be done randomly- or you can use strategy and allow them to give the cards to whom they wish (would be smart to give the partridge in a pear tree to the better players). Each person should only have 1 card. When a person is tagged out, they must stand still holding out their card till someone on the OPPOSING team takes the card from them. Once you are relieved of your card you go back to your base and get another card - restart your laser tag gun and get back into the game. Players get to Respawn till there are no cards left. To Respawn, you MUST go all the way back to your team base to collect a card. When you take a card from someone, you must make it back to your base and put it on your card pile (more fun would be to have a tree to hang it on with a different zone for each day of Christmas with day 12 being the bottom and 1 the top.) There are two ways to handle if you are tagged out returning a captured card to your teams base: 1- you simply put the card on the tree and draw your next card (if any). 2 - You stand still holding the cards that you have till someone from the OPPOSSING team takes them. This means the opposing team members can have multiple of their cards - plus the one you were carrying which they attempt to take back to their base and add back to their pile of cards (gives them back some respawns) - although if they get tagged out on the way there…
There are 2 ways of winning. The first team to get all 12 days of Christmas complete - automatically wins the instant their card is in their card pile(receiving)/Tree. As mentioned earlier, the game ends when the music stops. If neither team has completed their 12 days then winning is determined by points: 1 point for each card; 5 points for each day completed; 30 points if at least 6 days are completed in a row starting with day 1.
Of course this is all brainstorming from a fevered mind off the top of my head…feel free to modify and change things a bit! Well its 2:45 AM, I'm going to see if I can get to sleep again...
If these ideas spark some other ideas in your head...go to the forums section and post them in the Game Ideas forum!
